| Hi,
I just downloaded and read through the warm air furnace-cleaning manual. There was a section in it that covered the electrodes and how they should be set. I installed a fuel filter this past weekend and when I had the nozzle assembly out to make sure the tip was clear, I inspected the electrodes and they didn't look like they were set right. I didn't know how they should be set at the time but I at least evened them up a bit but they seemed rather far apart. Well, my furnace always sounded like a rocket engine when it fired and since I didn't know any better, thought it was normal. So when I saw how the electrodes should be set in the manual, I knew mine weren't right. They were too far back, close to the nozzle and the gap was way too big. I carefully cleaned the assembly and set them to what is specified and reinstalled the assembly. I turned the power back on and the furnace lit off but this time it didn't sound like a blast furnace but rather much quieter. I had to keep going over to it to listen to see if the burner was really on! Usually when the thing fires it drowns out the fan noise but now it's just the opposite. I'm guessing that it is firing more efficiently now and maybe I'll even get better fuel economy. There is something else I noticed that disappeared and I don't know why. Before I did this, when the burner fired I could hear a kinda chirping sound when the pump was sucking fuel. It was like a ticking, slurping sound that it hard to describe. Anyway, that sound has gone away now. I don't know why but I'm happy that my furnace doesn't make so much noise now! The thing that gets me is that I've had a service tech here 6 times or so and they've had the nozzle out each time and didn't seem to notice or even check that the electrodes were set right. Go figure! I want to thank you for providing me with all this useful information about my heating equipment. I feel like I can resolve any future problems that may arise and won't have to get soaked with a huge service call. Again, many thanks and I will be sure to look in your direction for all my future parts needs. I'm thinking of maybe getting the tiger loop system and putting that in at some point. Keep up the good work! Jerry
